Fashion in Review: BEST of 2012: Worst Trends

31 Dec

So I covered the best designers. The best trends. And now it’s time for me to cover the worst, I feel, of the year. Some of these were so bad that I wish the world had ended just so I would never have to lay eyes on these again! Seriously, let’s hope, like the Mayan calendar, that this is the end of this dreadful mess that “some of us”  like to call fashion.

Disclaimer: These are the opinions of Miss Monet. This post is in no way, shape, or form posted to hurt the feelings of others. If you like some of the things posted I won’t make fun of you, I’ll simple pray for you. Enjoy!

Worst….

Leggings. One of my biggest fashion pet peeves. Seriously when did leggings become the be all, end all of fashion? What ever happened to jeans, denim, pants? Why must people feel the need to wear these everyday and everywhere??? Thery’re HORRIBLE! Completely unsanitary and it always gives the same look. Ladies if you can feel the cold going up your butt, imagine what else you can feel or what else you have sat in. I feel leggings should be worn in the house or, if you have workout leggings, at the gym, but wearing these to clubs, dinner with friends, and work???!!! NO! OVER IT!!

Keep Calm and Carry On”. Why is it that everywhere I look I’m constantly seeing this?? I swear when fads take off they REALLY take off!! I’m seeing this on sweaters, coasters, notebooks, cards, Instagram, seriously stop the madness!! This was made by the British government in 1939 during WWII, and with good reason. Why are we still using it??!! And people add their little catchphrase to it and think it’s cute. I am not amused! OVER IT!!  Keep-calm-and-carry-on

Crosses. This entire year all I’ve seen are crosses, I feel like I’ve been stuck in a Lady Gaga or Madonna video for a year straight. Why is this popular can someone please tell me this?? Please!! I just don’t get it. Crosses have a religious significance to them, so I’m pretty sure Jesus wouldn’t want you wearing it splashed across your chest on a sweater or on a God-awful pair of leggings. And the sad part is people actually think they look so cute wearing this. It’s a horrendous fad that the masses have conformed to and it needs to be stopped . OVER IT!!

Really??!!

Really??!!

Mustaches. WTF!! OVER IT!!

STUDS ON EVERYTHING.  OVER IT!

Now that wasn’t too bad, was it?  Every now and then I need a moment to vent. Out with the old and in with the new. These fast fashion fads are definitely on there way out, but of course,  new fads will surely hit the scene in 2013. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Fashion in Review: BEST OF 2012: BEST TRENDS

31 Dec

Ok so, 2012 is pretty much over. Midnight will bring in a whole new year of hopes, dreams, and of course fashion!! I am certainly excited to bring in a new year and even more excited to see the new styles, trends, and fashions that will dominate 2013. In my last post I touched on my favorite designers of 2012, now let’s take a look back at a few of the best trends of the past year….

BEST….

Menswear. Women are the new men”, in more ways than one obviously. One of my favorite trends of the year was menswear, partly because I love mens clothing and another part because… I love mens clothing. But seriously, I love the empowering, masculine edge that women give off when they are wearing the tailored fashion trend.  A hint of masculine to compliment your feminine, because let’s face it ladies we all have those days when we just want to be one of the boys.

Prints. I love a good print on any piece of fabric!! This trend was by far my favorite of the year! Who knew houndstooth could spark such a comback? Or abstract shapes that you learned about in art or geometry class would make a blouse look so nice? Decorative fabrics like brocade, jacquard, baroque, and velvet graced not only the fall runway shows but stores and closets everywhere.

Brights. Color color everywhere and so much more was spared this year. Basic blacks and boring browns took a backseat as neon colors invaded stores and bodies everywhere with little to no fading insight.  Bright bold colors in everything from handbags to nail polish were so vibrant your closet resembled a box of crayons.

Peplum. An oldie but goodie. Peplum has made a strong comeback between this season and last season, even though it never really went out of style to begin with, this season a lot of women were willing to try the flared, ruffled masterpiece. Sexy, classy, elegant, and chic all wrapped up in one!

Leather and Oxblood. Nothing defined the end of the year quite like leather and the color oxblood. It signified the start of the fall season, appearing countless times on the runways, in magazines, and on your favorite celebs. What I love about this trend is the many different looks it gives off. Leather can be dressed up or down, it is also capable of possesing a tough or girly approach, two things which I feel make up a little of who I am. Oxblood, often called maroon or burgundy, was the color of the season. It’s part of the red family, think of it as a cool cousin you don’t get to see that often, but when you do you always have a great time. The color was everywhere; on leather, pants, blouses, nail polishes, and my new favorite obsession…. lipstick. Oxblood: a warm, rich, slightly darker hue that makes any and all skin tones shimmer.

So there you have it, just a few trends that I was completely in love with this year. I  hope to see more of my favs and even better trends in 2013. Feel free to share your thoughts.

Have a safe and fabulous New Year!!
