FASHION WEEK: ALEXANDRE VAUTHIER FALL COUTURE 2013/2014

5 Jul

Alexandre Vauthier’s latest couture collection runs away from color and draws near black and white, which should be pleasing to the monochromatic fashion crowd. (See Kim Kardashian and Kanye West for reference).

The deep v’s and high slits have proven to be the fashion house’s signature, making this collection a win-win for me. Some of  Vauthier’s creations gave me visual flashbacks of Balmain during the Christophe Decarnin years. The fall couture show exudes the sexuality and edginess that makes up Rock n’ Roll chic so it will be no surprise when these looks appear on the bodies of Rita Ora, Miley Cyrus, and Rihanna.

FASHION WEEK: ATELIER VERSACE FALL COUTURE 2013/2014

4 Jul

I could not talk about Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week without giving a nod to Donatella Versace. The Atelier Versace Fall Couture show made its grand  debut on Monday and grand it was. Naomi Campbell opened the show giving an early indication of just what this collection was all about, GLAMOUR and CONFIDENCE.  Versace found inspiration from the black-and-white photography of the thirties,  “Horst and Man Ray”, she said.  Precision, perfection and work went into this collection and it didn’t go unnoticed.

FASHION WEEK: BALMAIN RESORT 2014

2 Jul

Who knew houndstooth and overalls could look so stylish? Apparently Olivier Rousteing! Balmain’s HDIC (Head Designer in Charge) proved 3 things: 1. Houndstooth will never get old. 2. Overalls are definitely back! And 3. Balmain is and will always be one of my favorite fashion houses! The Resort Collection only proves how crazy in love I am with Olivier and Balmain!

Houndstooth overalls? The mind says no but the eyes say yes!

This just SCREAMS: SAILING THE COAST OF MONACO.  Perfect definition of RESORT.

What I would give to have attended the BALMAIN showroom today. Beauty, chic, edgy, feminine and flirty, this collection caters to the many different facets that make up a woman’s style. Rousteing didn’t miss a beat.

THIS. IS. BALMAIN RESORT 2014.

FASHION WEEK: MILAN FASHION WEEK FAVES

27 Feb

It’s official Milan Fashion Week has beat out New York Fashion Week, at least that’s my humble opinion so don’t take offense. This year’s  Autumn/Winter shows had me in awe. Let’s get started with a recap of what was my favorites at  Milan Fashion Week.

DSQUARED2 – The song ‘Suit&Tie’ definitely resonated at the DSQUARED2 show. Dan and Dean Caten chose menswear inspired looks for their womenswear collection. There was an array of oversized fedoras in different colors, double bow ties and double-breasted blazers. There’s something about a woman in a suit…..

VERSACE- What inspired Donatella Versace? Punk or as she puts it, Vunk. And that’s just what viewers got from this collection. Rock n’ Roll reigned supreme in this 90’s-esque punk rock collection of shiny leather, oversized coats, mini skirts, and bright whites, blacks, and the occassional yellows and reds. Which hit me with flashbacks from ‘Clueless‘.

ETRO– Etro’s autumn/winter 2013 collection was full of geometric designs, and abstract and kaleidoscope patterns in bright colors and muted hues. 3 words: I love it!!

DOLCE & GABBANA-  Catholic Royalty was the name of the game, or at least that’s what I thought, in Milan. The designers drew inspiration from Byzantine mosaics, and had the models adorned in golden crowns and jewels. It’s classy. It’s elegant. It’s romantic. It’s perfection!

ROBERTO CAVALLI- Floral and furs in black and white and red, blue, and greens were very abundant on Cavalli’s runway. I fell in lust with a few looks, looks full of opulence, decadence, and the over-the-top fabulousness that Roberto Cavalli is known for. Peta beware.

FASHION WEEK: HERVE LEGER FALL 2013

11 Feb

I’ve always been a fan of Herve Leger and the coveted bandage dress, but for a time I began to grow tired of it. Every celeb was always seen wearing the standard Herve and Louboutins to any red carpet event, not to mention the overkill on bandage dress knockoffs that I’m sure many of you have seen. However, the fall 2013 collection has made me think otherwise. I love the  animal prints, colors, leather, furs, crop tops and the baseball caps! Here are a few of my favorite looks from this stunning animalistic collection.

I could definitely see Gwen Stefani in this!

Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2013: Hedi Slimane’s Debut

3 Oct

Hedi Slimane debuted his first collection for Spring/Summer 2013 for the couture house formerly known as YSL. Judging by the looks on the runway there was some hits and some misses. Now if we’re judging by the fact the critics put their pens down half way through the show, then it was a total failure. But alas, it was his first show so I’ll go easy on him.

This collection was Kate Moss meets Carmen SanDiego meets Van Helsing.

There were some definite stand out pieces, pieces that have made YSL what it is today. I fell in love with the tie blouse and the leather cigarette pants. It definitely gave off a masuline look which I am loving right now. However, the hats were so big you could barely see the models faces.

Overall, I can understand why the critics felt the way they did. There was just too many trends fighting for attention with no room for them to stand alone. When Slimane took the simple and clean approach that is when his designs really shined. I won’t count him out just yet. This is a man who has an outstanding resume, the blessing from Pierre Berge, Saint Laurent’s former partner, and not to mention he has worked for YSL and Dior. However, he is going to have to come harder if he wants forgiveness for the name change.

Cruella would be proud.
